Emerson Pontes / Uýra Sodoma
Emerson Pontes is a contemporary Indigenous artist, graduate of biology and master in ecology. They live in Manaus, an industrial territory in the middle of the forest, where they transform into Uýra, a tree that walks. A feature of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo and winner of the PIPA Prize 2022, Uýra uses the body to narrate stories of different natures via photoperformance, performance and installations. They are interested in living systems and their violations, with an emphasis on memory and Indigenous diaspora. The documentary Uýra: The Rising Forest was released in 2022.
